Google and Virgin joins for Project Virgle

Google and Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group have came together for Project Virgle and their mission: to establish a permanent human settlement on Mars.

Yes, you heard it right.

In his post on Google blog, Mr Branson says, "Larry Page, Sergey Brin and I feel strongly that contemporary technology is sufficiently advanced to make such an effort both successful and economical, and that it's high time that humanity moved beyond Earth and began our great, long journey to explore the stars and establish our first lasting foothold on another world."

Named The 100 Year Plan, they are planning to send a series of spaceships carrying Virgle Pioneers with supplies and tools needed to build the new colony, starting 2014.

Mr. Branson's plan is to convert the rocky desert to something like this by 2108.

Beautiful. I vote for him.

Please check the Google site if you want to know more of the The 100 Year Plan.
