Yahoo joins Google's OpenSocial

Yahoo! earlier this week announced its plan to join Google’s OpenSocial application platform.

Applications implementing the OpenSocial APIs will be interoperable with any social network system that supports them, including features on sites such as Hi5.com, MySpace, Friendster and Orkut.

OpenSocial provides a common mechanism for developers to easily hook into many different social networks and extend their functionality.

So far, OpenSocial is rapidly growing and adapting, but still in the early stages.

In addition, Yahoo!, MySpace, and Google are joining with the broader community to create a non-profit foundation called the OpenSocial Foundation, to foster the continued development of OpenSocial.
