U.S. Search Marketshare: Google up, Yahoo and Microsoft Down

According to data released by Nielsen, Google's market share for Web search in the U.S. rose in February to 58.7 percent, up from January and the same period a year ago.

Nielsen also found that there were about 4.5 billion Google queries in February, up significantly from the 4.2 billion performed the month before. This is particularly significant with respect to days, since February is a short month.

Google's main rivals Yahoo! and Microsift both saw their marketshare heading south in the month of February.

Yahoo! saw its share of U.S. Internet searches shrink to 17.6 percent from 19 percent in January and Microsoft Corp. also saw its share slip to 11.2 percent from 12.1 percent in January.
